The video, shared by Judge Roy Ferguson of the 394th Judicial District of Texas, garnered millions of views, turning Ponton into an unexpected viral star.

The day after the incident, Rod Ponton joined the TODAY show to discuss his newfound fame. Reflecting on the situation, Ponton said, “It can happen to anybody, but yesterday it dang sure happened to me.” Despite the initial embarrassment, Ponton was able to laugh at the situation along with the rest of the world.
Carson Daly, one of the hosts, asked Ponton if he had managed to figure out the filter settings. Ponton replied humorously, “So I don’t have the filter on right now, (but) it certainly made my day.” He explained that he had been using someone else’s computer, which likely caused the unexpected filter.

Even in the face of technical difficulties, Ponton was ready to proceed with the hearing. “I’ve got my assistant here and she’s trying to remove it but uh … I’m prepared to go forward with it. Judge Ferguson tweeted a reminder to check Zoom settings before joining a call, especially if the computer has been used by a child. “IMPORTANT ZOOM TIP: If a child used your computer, before you join a virtual hearing check the Zoom Video Options to be sure filters are off,” Ferguson advised.

Ponton’s appearance on the TODAY show highlighted his ability to handle the situation with grace and humor. “I was having lunch after that hearing, and I was wondering why my phone was blowing up with calls from around the country and around the world,” he recalled. “I got as big a laugh out of it as everybody else.”
